Mentoring is not new, it has existed for centuries. It is simply the process whereby an experienced individual supports and develops another person through the sharing of their experiences and the resulting lessons that they learnt.

A mentor will listen, act as a sounding-board, provide inspiration, draw on their own experience and help avoid mistakes being made.

Mentoring is a supportive and inspirational relationship based on trust and mutual respect, benefitting both participants. It is about developing ability and potential in an individual and enabling them to reach their true potential and overcome their challenges; whether they are career, business or personal.

Mentoring can cover a number of different areas where the mentee wants to make a positive change.

a) Circumstance - For example achieving a better work-life balance, get a promotion or new job , deal with a difficult relative etc.

b) Knowledge / Insight / Expertise - to develop a new or greater understanding

c) Development Of A Skill - to be able to do something you can't currently

d) Attitude / Opinion - for example to have more self-confidence

e) Behaviour - such as being able to handle a situation better

Good Chemistry

For mentoring to be truly successful there needs to be a good chemistry between mentor and mentee. So even if your profiles look to be a good match, you will never really know until you start the mentoring process. For this reason, at MentorMatchMe if after you commence your mentoring either the mentor or mentee feel the fit is not right then you are able to end the mentoring relationship by mutual consent and the mentee is able to re-post the challenge and continue the search for their best match mentor.
